Africa's 5th Highest Peak — A Challenging 4-Day Trek Through Forest & Alpine Desert

Mount Meru (4,566m) is Africa's fifth highest peak and one of Tanzania's best-kept secrets. Rising from the plains near Arusha inside Arusha National Park, Meru offers a challenging and spectacularly rewarding 4-day trek through montane forest, open moorland, and stark alpine desert to its dramatic summit crater rim.

Unlike the crowded Kilimanjaro routes, Meru sees far fewer trekkers, giving it a genuine wilderness feel. Colobus monkeys, buffalo, giraffe, and elephant can all be encountered on the lower slopes, and armed rangers accompany all trekkers for safety. Many climbers do Meru first as acclimatisation for Kilimanjaro.
